Emergency Call System

The average number of casualties in car accidents worldwide are tens of thousands.
Although today there are quality safety systems in vehicles, the most significant response to people injured in an accident depends on the speed of assistance they need immediately after the accident.

Providing medical treatment to car accident victims within the first hour from the moment of injury has a crucial contribution to make in the victim’s life and his chances of recovery are up to 80% higher than a car accident victims who has not received treatment within this time.

After many studies in the United States and in Europe, a standard has been formulated that requires car manufacturers to implement a “distress button” system in new vehicles.

The purpose of the system is to enable an immediate response to the victims of a car accident, by the location of the vehicle and the type of injury, while creating communication with those involved in the accident.

The Way It Works

  1. Airbag deployment or pressing of the call button.
  2. Sends vehicle information to the Emergency Answering Center.
  3. 3Requests dispatch of emergency vehicle.
  4. Emergency vehicle is dispatched.

When an automobile accident occurs, the system installed in the vehicle enables either manual or automatic placement of an emergency call.

A voice message and vehicle information (e.g., position, car direction, license, plate number, vehicle model) are sent via the network to the Emergency Answering Center closest to the accident site. The aim of the system is to improve rescue rates.

Emergency Call System

In Israel:

In Israel, there is still no binding standard for installing the system in private vehicles, and a decision has not yet been formulated by the Ministry of Transportation.

A large part of the new vehicles imported to Israel already come with a built-in distress button from the manufacturer.
At this stage there is no definition in the law who the system will order, Police, Magen David Adom services or fire brigades so there is no information or publication on this subject, but in practice, oddly enough the system is already working.

Alternatives:
There are companies such as Pointer, Ituran and Kaftot which offer distress button services with a 24/7 staffed hotline (highly recommended for the elderly population).

It is possible and recommended to install My MDA app which allows you to order the rescue services at the click of a button, similar to the distress button in the vehicle, and also provides the location of the incident to the rescue forces.

So, What Does The
Emergency Call System Do?

If a distress button is installed in your vehicle, it is probably active.
In most cases, pressing the distress button will call you at the MDA hotline.
Apparently, the system still does not alert rescue services automatically in the event of an accident and the opening of airbags.

In Conclusion

Car accidents claim tens of thousands of injured and hundreds killed each year. Car manufacturers are slowly making vehicles safer but there is no substitute for proper judgment and careful driving.

If you still find yourself in an emergency – you can press the distress button and call the rescue forces.

One should always hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.
