Safety tip for Purim 2022

Hello all,

Here are some safety tips for the Purim holiday:

  1. Both the sidewalks and the roads are crowded on Purim. Therefore, we must be alert regarding the traffic and general safety rules.
  2. Even when the sidewalk is crowded and narrow, one should not go down to the road unexpectedly.
  3. With the Purim festive atmosphere, the costumes and the songs of the “Nahafoch Ho” seem to mislead people, making them feel that even the safety rules can be reversed or ignored. Walking on the road or crossing it suddenly.
  4. Keep in mind that at Purim the roads are as dangerous as every day and even more so. The safety rules are especially valid, and awareness to the traffic safety precautions must be taken into consideration when driving, walking and crossing.

The child population is one of the three populations that are most affected by road accidents.

Every year, an average of about 40 children are killed in road accidents – the equivalent of an entire class.

Risk factors on Purim:

  • Many times the costumes can interfere with the child’s field of view. Therefore, children should be taught to remove their masks before crossing the road.
  • The costumes are sometimes uncomfortable or puffy, making it difficult to buckle them safely. Be sure to fasten the children on every trip, even the shortest if necessary. If needed, remove the costume during the trip.
  • On this day we can expect multiple traffic jams. Be prepared for this in advance and be patient (drinks, food, games, etc ..)
  • Purim is a happy and intriguing day. Precautions must be taken with the children that they do not suddenly jump into the road or cross the road in a dangerous place.
  • Make sure there is a designated driver, who will remain sober and alert. This will allow the other participants to drink and have fun.

Don’t park or stop in the middle of the street.

We have all seen it. The cars stopped in the middle of the street, kids running around in all direction towards and between cars driving down the road. Drivers are distracted. Just as you would not allow your child to cross the street alone during the year, Purim should be no exception.

Stopping, parking, pulling into the driveway and generally driving next to populated areas should be done carefully and safely.

Have a safe and Happy Purim
